Enneagram and IFS–what a devilishly fascinating dynamic duo. I”m loving this–just listened to parts one and two; looking forward to the rest.

For decades I’ve believed (after attending a one year course where people self-identified Enneagram types after listening to other’s reports of their type) I was a five, but after thinking about which type I most don’t want to identify with–4–I suspect I may be a 4 who discovered in a chaotic childhood that that it was safer to embrace five’s characteristics as observers and analyzers, and focus on developing expertise in a single/very limited field of study. That has had it’s own challenges, since I’ve always been highly distractible.

I was diagnosed with ADD as an adult, and I wonder if Joan or Dick have thought about ADD/ADHD from the IFS model? I work a lot with several major players in my internal parts community like spaciness, extreme distractibility, procrastination, fear of judgement or even attacks by other people, attention on worst case scenarios, feeling selfish, perfectionism, conflict between loneliness and being overwhelmed by others, yatta yatta . These parts of course have critics that would just like them to disappear.

In an attempt to choose between four and five, I’m acting on Joan’s suggestion and making a list of what I commonly say to myself, and what my attention naturally gravitates to. Am looking especially forward to discussions about four and five. And yes, if I could, I’d be a seven. Jan 19, 2022.
